Indiana's largest abortion provider closing five sites; is decision driven by refusal to lower fees for low income women?
Indianapolis, IN - Indiana's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood of Indiana, announced late last week that it will be closing five of its office locations including ones in Indianapolis, Anderson, Kokomo, Franklin, and Shelbyville. Planned Parenthood of Indiana annually does over 6,000 medical and surgical abortions at its abortion facilities in Indianapolis, Merrillville, and Bloomington.
According to the Indianapolis Star report on September 5, Planned Parenthood is losing grant monies formerly administered by the Indiana State Department of Health. Beginning in October, those funds will be administered by the Indiana Family Health Council.
Part of the Indiana Family Health Council's program requires that clinics funded under the Title XX program must limit the amount charged to low-income women, leading to speculation that Planned Parenthood's office closings are strictly profit-driven decisions not to lower its fees in order to comply with the program.
